Terms of Service

Who we are

Smart DIY Home is a membership service at app.smartdiyhome.com. It is operated by a sole proprietorship registered in Belgium. In these terms, "we", "us", and "our" mean that business.

By creating an account or using Smart DIY Home, you agree to these terms.

What Smart DIY Home is

Your membership gives you access to project guides, simple tools, and plans across three paths: Home Improvements, Green & Solar, and Survival. Everything in Smart DIY Home is general education for DIY projects. It is not professional advice — please read the DIY safety disclaimer below.

Memberships, trials, and billing

  • Front Porch is free. No card is needed, and nothing is billed.
  • Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. You are not charged until the trial ends.
  • After the trial, you pay for the plan you chose — monthly or annually, in US dollars.
  • Payments are handled securely by Stripe. We never see or store your card numbers.
  • Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your billing page, or by emailing support@smartdiyhome.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep full access until then, and you will not be charged again.

Acceptable use

To keep Smart DIY Home useful and pleasant for everyone, you agree to:

  • Use your membership for your own personal use, and keep your account to yourself.
  • Be respectful in any community area. No abuse, harassment, or spam.
  • Not copy, resell, or republish our guides, plans, tools, or other content.
  • Not use Smart DIY Home for anything unlawful.

We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

No guarantees of results

Our content is educational and general in nature. Every house, every budget, and every skill level is different. We make no promises about project outcomes, cost savings, or energy savings.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for property damage or injury arising from work you choose to carry out, or for decisions you make based on our content. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, and nothing removes the consumer rights you have by law where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will let you know by email.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Belgium, where the business is registered. Wherever you live, you also keep any mandatory consumer protections of your home country or state.

Privacy Policy

Who is responsible for your data

The data controller is the sole proprietorship registered in Belgium that operates Smart DIY Home. Because the business is based in the EU, this policy follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for everyone — wherever you live.

What we collect

  • Account details — your email address and name, so you can sign in and we can reach you.
  • Quiz choices — the path and answer you pick in our quiz, so we can point you to the right guide. If you take the quiz without an account, your answer is stored only in your own browser.
  • Usage — which guides and tools you use, so we can improve Smart DIY Home.
  • Payment details — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card numbers.

Why we use it

  • To run your account and membership (we need this to provide the service).
  • To send you the emails you ask for — sign-in links, guides, and receipts.
  • To improve the service, based on how it is used (our legitimate interest).
  • Anything optional — like analytics cookies — only happens with your consent.

We never sell your data, and we never share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can, at any time:

  • Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you (access).
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong (rectification).
  • Ask us to delete your data (erasure).
  • Ask us to limit how we use it, or object to a use (restriction and objection).
  • Ask for your data in a portable format (portability).
  • Complain to the Belgian data protection authority (dataprotectionauthority.be) — or to your own local authority.

To use any of these rights, email support@smartdiyhome.com. If your local law gives you extra privacy rights, you keep those too.

Who helps us run Smart DIY Home

We use a small number of trusted providers ("processors"). Each one only handles what it needs to do its job:

  • Supabase — secure hosting of your account and data.
  • Stripe — payments.
  • Our email provider — delivers the emails you ask for.

Some providers run their services in the United States. Where data leaves the EU, it is protected by recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep your data

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your data is deleted too, except for the records we are legally required to keep (such as invoices).

Affiliate Disclosure

Some links on Smart DIY Home are affiliate links — for example, links to products and plans through marketplaces such as ClickBank. If you buy through one of these links, we may earn a commission.

  • This never costs you anything extra. The price is the same either way.
  • Commissions are how we keep the free guides free.
  • We only recommend things that fit the project at hand — a commission never changes the safety advice.
  • This disclosure follows the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on endorsements.

Cookies

Essential cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember basic preferences like your theme, and keep the service secure. The site cannot work without them, so they are always on.

Optional analytics and advertising

We only use analytics or advertising cookies if you agree to them. When you first visit, a cookie notice asks for your choice — these stay off unless you say yes.

How to decline or change your mind

  • Choose “Decline” in the cookie notice when it appears — the site works exactly the same.
  • You can also block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.

DIY Safety Disclaimer

Smart DIY Home is general education for DIY projects. It is not professional advice, and reading a guide is not the same as being qualified.

  • Electrical work can kill. Anything involving your home's wiring, service panel, or a grid-tied solar system belongs to a licensed electrician. The same goes for gas lines and major plumbing.
  • Solar and battery systems carry electrical, fire, and roofing risks. Have a qualified professional design, connect, and inspect any system before it goes live.
  • Structural changes — removing walls, cutting joists, major roofing — need a qualified professional's sign-off first.
  • Always follow your local building codes and get the permits your area requires. Codes exist to keep your family safe — and skipping them can void your insurance.
  • Wear the right protective gear, use tools the way their manuals say, and keep children away from the work area.
  • If a step feels beyond your skill or comfort level, stop and call a professional. There is no shame in it — that IS the smart DIY move.

You are responsible for the work you choose to carry out and for checking that it is legal and safe where you live. Stored food, water, and preparedness guidance is general information too — check official local guidance for emergencies in your area.

In an emergency, do not use this website. Call your local emergency services right away (911 in the US).
